Birdlife Northern Natal
Birdlife Northern Natal was formed in May 2000 as a
full branch of Birdlife South Africa. We subscribe to the constitutional
principles of BLSA and its international partners and as such present
typical birding activities, examples of which are mentioned below. The
committee of BLNN decided from the very start to become involved in the
marketing of our region as a top birdwatching destination. This culminated
in the formation of the Amajuba Birding Meander whereby partnerships were
formed with the Amajuba District Municipality, tourism authorities as well
as local lodges and bed and breakfast establishments. The Meander will be
utilised as a vehicle for greater involvement in community development and
regional avi-tourism applications to poverty relief funds. BLNN also runs
annual public awareness campaigns. We are currently focussing on Birds of
Prey. In this process, the focus falls on identification courses, the
establishment of vulture restaurants, the presentation of farmers days, etc.
